Satin fitted sheet

What advantage does a satin fitted sheet have?

Fitted sheet satin – What is satin?

A satin fitted sheet is a wonderful fabric that symbolizes luxury and comfort. In the bedroom, sheets made of silk fabrics are a real eye-catcher. Whether made of high-quality 100% mulberry silk in various colors like gold, ivory, or black, or from pure silk. Silk is soft and velvety, making it suitable as a pillowcase set for mattresses or for decorative purposes. But what exactly is silk anyway? The Mister Sandman mattress guide deals with the topic in the following article.

Fitted sheet satin – The history of satin

Satin, also known as silk, is recognized for its characteristic surface shine of the material. The satin material is shiny on the top side, while, for example, blankets, nightwear, pillows, or bed sheets are matte on the underside. The production of satin is called satin weave, which creates the special silk shine. During the heyday of the Silk Road in the Chinese region, the shipping and delivery of the expensive silk goods became increasingly uncertain and dangerous, leading to the silk trade being moved over the seas, which resulted in the new Silk Road ending in the southeastern Chinese city of Quanzhou. The word satin is derived from the Arabic Zaitun, which stands for the city of Quanzhou, which flourished after the redirection of the Silk Road in delivery and shipping to the whole world.

Fitted sheet satin – Satin as a material

Satin as a fabric comes in more shiny or less shiny variations depending on the type of fiber. The advantages are undeniable: whether flowing thin or stiffer fabric. Satin-blended fabrics can be made from silk, cotton, viscose, or polyester. For the production of bedding, such as pillowcases for pillows, fitted sheets, bed sheets, or duvet cover sets in general, manufacturers prefer to use cotton (also called cotton satin).

Satin bedding as an eye-catcher for any mattress

While in the nobility at that time satin and silk items, such as material made of 100% mulberry silk were withheld, products for bedding and more can be purchased everywhere. Fitted sheet satin: Advantages and properties of satin

Bedding made of satin with silk, cotton, polyester, or viscose has many advantages and positive properties as a material. Thus, silk bedding is:

  • Softly shiny
  • Easy to care for
  • Durable
  • A noble eye-catcher

Silk satin is very high quality and as a precious fabric has a high purchase price. Satin and silk are often used synonymously, as silk is often processed as satin. The price is therefore high, so items can be price-intensive, but you receive long-lasting quality goods in return. The luxury of silk and satin is still regarded today, even in Germany, and is well received by customers.

Use of satin silk

Satin or silk are used for both home textiles and the clothing industry (e.g., nightwear). Silk is also very popular as a decorative fabric. Buyers particularly prefer colors such as:

  • Black
  • Ivory
  • Gold
  • Gray
  • Silver
  • Green

Classically, colors in silvery tones, such as gold, ivory, and silver are very popular, while colors like classic black embody something slightly mysterious and very noble. The extensive silk satin offering is used for the following products and items:

  • Bed linen (silk bed linen, silk pillowcases for pillows
  • Bed sheets (silk bed sheets, silk duvet covers)
  • Fitted sheets (satin fitted sheets)

There are all items and products in every imaginable color and size. For mattresses (80 x 200, 90 x 200, 100 x 200, 140 x 200, 160 x 200, 180 x 200, and 200 x 200), such silk products are excellent, as they can be ideally complemented with silk items. Silk bed linen is therefore still a real eye-catcher in the cozy home.

Fitted sheet satin: Which fitted sheets are the most popular?

Especially popular items that are easy to care for and impress due to their advantages include:

  • Stretch-Satin fitted sheets made of cotton (100% super skin-friendly properties, stretch content is 100% robust and 100% durable, making the material 100% preferred for protection as fitted sheets for mattresses)

  • Mako-Satin fitted sheets made of Mako cotton (ideal for making bed linen due to its particularly cooling quality and luxurious skin feel, also priced higher because the cotton comes from Egypt and is therefore more expensive)

  • Mulberry silk fitted sheets made from mulberry silk are a particularly high-quality product, as the silk is obtained from silkworms that feed almost exclusively on mulberry leaves. The silk is extracted from the cocoon that the silkworms spin. The production is very elaborate, so the price for 100% soft and high-quality mulberry silk products is significantly higher.

Colors, sizes, and selection of satin bed sheets and fitted sheets

Many fitted sheets also mean a large selection for the bedroom. Soft-looking colors with reduced sets, such as gold, silver, black, or ivory. If you prefer something more colorful and want to bring colors into the night, you can also choose silk satin in the colors green, blue, red, or purple. Some items also have patterns, such as stars or flowers. Covers, such as fitted sheets, bed sheets, or also duvet covers are available from most manufacturers in sets. Each set can have a width between 135 and 240 cm and must be at least 200 cm long, so they fit well with the standard sizes for mattresses (80 x 200, 90 x 200, 100 x 200, 140 x 200, 160 x 200, 180 x 200, and 200 x 200) and of course for the corresponding sizes (standard sizes and oversized for duvets). Satin fitted sheet: Care and cleaning of satin material and silk fabrics

Cotton and satin are preferably used in combination for bed linen, such as for pillows (pillowcases) and sheets (fitted sheets and fitted sheets). These can be easily maintained and should be washed in the washing machine at maximum 60 degrees, as cotton can withstand significantly higher temperatures. Other types of satin, such as silk satin should be washed between 30 to a maximum of 40 degrees. Ironing should be done on the covers, such as fitted sheets and bed sheets, only at moderately hot to hot temperature (between 150 degrees to a maximum of 200 degrees). However, exact details can always be found on the care labels that are present on each item.

Satin fitted sheet - Why do we use fitted sheets?

Fitted sheets exist in the first sense for hygienic purposes. Cotton fitted sheets help protect the mattress from contamination, as a person loses between 0.5 to 1 liter of sweat overnight. The bed cover helps to create a natural barrier to protect the mattress core at night from dead skin flakes and dirt particles. Skin flakes are particularly favored by dust mites, which can cause allergic reactions in many people. Therefore, it is important to shake out the bed well every morning after getting up and to ventilate the room sufficiently.
