Bed slatted frame - Bed types: The upholstered bed

The upholstered bed is, as the name suggests, a upholstered bed. It is characterized mainly by the headboard, which is also upholstered. Often, this is a bed with a bed box. Upholstered beds are especially distinguished by their elegant appearance. The upholstered headboard is excellent for reading or watching TV in bed. A bed with drawers is of course practical for storing all sorts of things in the bed box. However, proper care of the upholstery can be quite challenging.

The futon bed

Futon beds are modeled after the Japanese futon (blankets that are rolled up for sleeping on the floor and stored differently during the day) and are very minimalistic in design – they consist only of a bed frame and a thin mattress. Traditionally, this is filled with cotton in Japan, but in Europe, other natural fibers are also added for filling. Futon beds are particularly practical as they are space-saving and can be used as a sofa during the day, for example. By now, the futon bed is also considerably more comfortable than its Japanese predecessor. However, the low height of the futon bed may pose difficulties when getting in and out.

The sky bed

The four-poster bed has an extension or column on each of its four bed posts, which can reach up to two or three meters in height. Metal is usually used as the material, but sometimes wood or bamboo is also used. At the top of the columns, there are connectors that hold the bed frame together at the top. This is where the so-called canopy is placed, which gives the bed its name. The canopy can be any fabric, such as silk or chiffon, that is stretched between the columns at the top. Depending on taste, this fabric can completely envelop the bed like a curtain or form only individual fabric strips. Depending on the light permeability of the fabric, you can completely darken the inside of the bed or only slightly cover it. Those who prefer the romantic look will do well with the four-poster bed. The diverse and individual design options for the canopy and curtains also speak in favor of the four-poster bed. The impressive appearance can vary depending on the bedroom – in a large room, four-poster beds can fully unfold their majestic effect, while they may appear overwhelming in a small room.

The solid wood bed

The solid wood bed (or just wood bed) is made entirely of solid wood. There is no uniform construction for solid wood beds, aside from the fact that they are all made of wood. Some of these wooden beds are left in their natural color, but they can also be painted in color. The solid wood bed is a very stable bed and therefore lasts a long time. If you want to bring a natural look into the bedroom, the wood bed is a good choice. Since these beds are made completely without metal, the formation of electromagnetic fields is prevented. However, a bed that is made entirely of natural materials is not exactly cheap.

The metal bed

Metal beds are made entirely of metal. In addition, they usually have a head and foot section, which can be more or less ornate and decorated depending on taste. The metal bed is one of the cheapest bed variants. Furthermore, it brings a romantic look to the bedroom with its sometimes very playful patterns. There are countless design possibilities. Additionally, the metal bed is durable and requires little maintenance. However, it may happen that the metal bed starts to squeak.

The water bed

The waterbed consists roughly of a frame and a mattress filled with water. In most cases, these mattresses are also heated. Waterbeds are considered very relaxing to lie on, among other things, because the firmness of the mattresses can be individually adjusted by the amount of water. With a waterbed, the pressure can be better distributed, relieving the spine, which is particularly beneficial for people with back pain. Allergy sufferers are also well advised with this bed variant, as dust mites cannot settle in the water core. However, one should keep in mind that a waterbed can be very expensive not only to purchase but also to clean, as it is not exactly easy to maintain. Additionally, the waterbed is quite heavy and therefore inflexible.

Das Rattan-Bett

Rattanbetten werden aus Rattan hergestellt oder haben zumindest eine Rattanoberfläche. Rattan wird aus der Rattanpalme gewonnen und ist somit ein natürliches Material. Es bringt außerdem eine exotische Optik mit sich und ist trotz seiner Leichtigkeit robust und langlebig. Man sollte allerdings Feuchtigkeit vermeiden, da sich das Material sonst verfärben kann. Je nach Verarbeitung kann es auch sein, dass das Rattanbett Risse oder herausstehende Stellen hat, an dem beispielsweise Kleidung hängenbleiben kann.

The box spring bed

The box spring bed (also spring box bed) has a multi-mattress structure, consisting more precisely of a top and a bottom mattress and therefore does not have a slatted frame. The bottom mattress, also known as "box spring", is what gives the box spring bed its name. This is a frame that surrounds the mattress with springs. One can imagine it like a hotel bed.
