What is microfiber?

Microfiber is a synthetic fiber. It consists of polyester and silk-like polyamide, as well as nylon and acrylic. The microfiber or its individual threads have only half the thickness of silk, making this synthetic material significantly softer than silk. It is precisely these fine threads that are also the reason why microfiber hardly tends to pilling. It forms such a smooth surface that these unpleasant fabric lumps are generally absent. Microfiber is available in so many colors and color combinations that it fits effortlessly into all homes. Although microfiber is made from recycled material, it is not very environmentally friendly. With every wash, micro-particles are released, which enter the sea unfiltered. Even sewage treatment plants cannot filter out these micro-particles. On the other hand, the production is also not really eco-friendly. In Germany, only 20% of PET bottles are recycled. The rest is exported and processed into textiles in other countries. Germany then imports this goods back at a high cost. So if you care about the environment, you are better off with natural fibers.
