What is a living blanket?
Introduction of the living blanket
A living blanket is a part of many households. Living blankets can be used in various ways. Whether as a cozy blanket on the sofa in front of the TV, as an additional blanket on a mattress, or as a sofa throw to add a color accent. Living blankets are also used as bedspreads to protect the bedding from dirt and dust. There are living blankets in various sizes, colors, and materials.
Cozy blanket as a great living blanket
On almost every sofa, there is a cozy blanket to be found. The colorful couch companions in red, green, blue, beige, brown, and cream not only bring color to the couch, but they also invite relaxation and lingering. However beautiful they may be, they actually make it impossible to snuggle up and then move. They slide off the shoulders and arms, and soon you are cold again. Somehow, they always slip at some point and expose a part of the body that quickly gets cold again. And this is where the sleeve blanket comes into play. The most significant advantage is its unrestricted freedom for arms and movement, without sacrificing any comfort or warmth. Putting it on is incredibly simple, just like putting on a sweater. The head and arms are inserted through the corresponding openings, and that's it. There are no restrictions in freedom of movement, whether you want to operate the remote control, read a book, or hold a cup. The sleeves stay securely on the arms and do not slip, as is the case with a conventional cozy blanket.
Cuddle blanket ideal for children suitable as a living blanket
Cuddle blankets are not only popular with children, they also serve as colorful accents on chairs, sofas, and beds. They are usually draped where one makes themselves comfortable. The different materials enhance the feeling of well-being and the cuddle factor. They come in various colors, from bright and bold like red, yellow, green, to muted in gray, white, or black. It is soft, looks good, and provides warmth in all situations – the cuddle blanket/living blanket/bedspread is much more than an everyday consumer good. It is a high-quality feel-good product that makes life more pleasant and beautiful. With a hot tea, it's off to the couch in autumn and winter – best wrapped in a warm cuddle blanket. And this feel-good accessory comes in various versions: as a wool blanket, cozy faux fur, or fluffy fleece blanket. A living blanket was long considered the epitome of a rather conservative living style. For a while, textile bedspreads even completely disappeared from the scene. However, as is the case with many living trends, living blankets returned to the collections of interior designers. Today, living blankets are popular home accessories that transform the bedroom into a tidy, stylish space during the day while protecting the bedding from dust and dirt. You can also find beautiful living blankets in a wide selection at our bonprix online shop. Decide for yourself which living blanket fits your personal furnishing style.
Throw blanket as a great all-rounder
Throw blankets are true all-rounders and are often underestimated. Because throw blankets come with many advantages. Anyone who owns a throw blanket can use it to make the bedroom accessible to guests, as the bedding remains hidden under the throw blanket and is protected from dirt. This way, you can confidently place something on the bed or even sort and fold laundry without disturbing the made bed. But even when the nights are cooler, one can leave the bedspread over the actual bedding and slip under the many layers. This way, the throws provide additional warmth. In summer, however, many people use the throw blanket, as an alternative to a thin sheet, as the only bed cover.
Materials for throw blanket
The throw blanket can be made from various materials. We have listed the most common ones here. Perhaps there is a blanket for you as well:
- Fleece throw blanket: Cuddly soft and pleasant on the skin, fleece is very popular for all kinds of cozy home textiles. Towels, bathrobes, and also cuddle blankets made of fleece provide us with comforting warmth and security through the cozy material. For children, clothes are also often made from fleece, and bed sheets and bedding can also be found in this wonderful fabric.
- Cotton throw blanket: Organic cotton, which is 100% free of harmful substances, is wonderfully suitable as a material for the cuddle blanket. Many colors and patterns can be made from it, and it is always characterized by the cozy material.
- Cashmere throw blanket: Velvety soft and incredibly pleasant on the skin, cashmere is not a cheap but definitely worthwhile investment for a cuddle blanket. It is often chosen in neutral tones like black, brown, or gray, as it appears timeless and elegant. Typically, the cashmere cuddle blanket is adorned with fringes.
- Faux fur throw blanket: Many refer to the fur blanket as the ultimate cuddle blanket. It can be made of real fur, but synthetic fur is also incredibly soft and cozy. The warming material also looks quite appealing and is best showcased in natural color tones.
What is a plaid?
Basically, a plaid is a relatively thin blanket. It is used nowadays both in fashion and as a home accessory. The classic material for a plaid is virgin wool. Alpaca or sheep wool gives the plaid pleasantly warming properties. Modern plaids are sometimes made entirely of synthetic fibers or luxurious cashmere. Plaids are often used as throw blankets.
Where does the plaid come from?
The plaid has its origins in the Scottish Highlands. Where a harsh climate prevails and the proud clans of the Scots live, the plaid is part of the general cultural heritage. Traditionally, plaids are made from a checkered tartan fabric. Even today, the famous Scottish checks are a typical pattern for plaids. As a decorative and warming blanket, the plaid is widely used in living areas today. The term 'plaid' has completely detached itself from its original use. Neither checkered tartan fabrics, nor pure wool, nor the usual plaid dimensions are binding here. Nowadays, the term plaid encompasses a colorful mix of patterned thin blankets for couches, armchairs, or beds. Its significance as a garment seems to have taken a back seat to this utility. However, whether thrown over the shoulders or as a decorative accessory in the home, each plaid is essentially a thin, visually appealing blanket.
Throw blankets made of Jacquard
Throw blankets made of Jacquard are coming back in style. Jacquard is a specific weaving technique for fabrics that allows for designs with complex patterns and dates back to the inventor Joseph-Marie Jacquard. Various fabrics can be woven using this technique, such as silk, viscose, cotton, or synthetic materials. Knitted Jacquard fabrics are usually processed with 2-4 or even more colorful threads, allowing for very complex patterns. As a transition between two colors, these threads are crossed over each other, preventing any holes from forming. On the back side, you can only see the color of the following thread. Jacquard fabrics are generally somewhat heavier and thicker in their texture, similar to a sweatshirt. In the "Jersey" variant, that is, as a clothing fabric, Jacquard falls quite fluidly and is therefore suitable for a variety of garments.
