Four Seasons Duvet

What advantages does a four-season duvet have?

Four-season duvet as a companion throughout the year

A four-season duvet or combination duvet consists of two duvets that can be connected or separated from each other. The two corresponding duvets have different filling weights. They can be connected or separated with snap buttons or Velcro fasteners. This gives you a thin summer duvet, a thicker one for spring and autumn, and the combined one as a cozy cover for winter. A four-season duvet is designed to be usable all year round.

The advantages of a four-season duvet:

  • First-class thermal effect
  • Moisture regulating
  • Good washability
  • Little space for storage

There are hardly any disadvantages, sometimes the duvet is perceived as too heavy. A four-season duvet is designed to be usable almost all year round. Optimized materials ensure that you can sleep well with it in almost any season. Only in the height of summer, at over 25 degrees in the bedroom, should a thin silk or bamboo duvet be used as an alternative. There is a wide selection of duvets with various fillings and different qualities.

Before deciding to buy a four seasons blanket

Before purchasing, you should ask yourself the following questions:

  • What is the minimum or maximum temperature in the bedroom?
  • Should the four seasons blanket be washable, or is cleaning ability sufficient?
  • Do you sweat or feel cold quickly?
  • Should the blanket be light or heavy?
  • Are there any allergies present?
  • How much do you want to spend

Types of Four Seasons Blankets

Blankets can be filled with different fillings. There is filling made of cotton, microfiber, down, camel hair, and cashmere. All have certain advantages and disadvantages. It also always depends on the individual needs of each person. It is best to try out the individual blankets. You can quickly find out which blanket is good for you.

Four Seasons Natural Hair Blanket

With camel hair blankets and cashmere blankets, we find two large and also good representatives of the natural hair category. Cashmere is not suitable as a year-round blanket. The filling amount determines for which temperatures it is suitable. Those who tend to feel cold and have a cold bedroom can rely on cashmere as a winter blanket. It is possible to take a cashmere blanket with little filling and use it as a transitional blanket, but this is only a good solution for a few customers due to price reasons, as cashmere is expensive. The camel hair blanket can be a perfect year-round blanket. The camel – which lives in the desert – can cope with frosty temperatures and also great heat with its hair. Camel hair also has a self-cleaning effect.

Four-season down comforter

In a few exceptional cases, down comforters can also be used as a four-season comforter. However, this largely depends on the quality of the down and whether two comforters with different fillings can be combined. Down is not just down; there is duck down, goose down, and eider down. These differ significantly in quality. Duck down is the lowest quality, as it is very small and can break more easily. Goose down has good quality, but one should pay attention to the conditions in which the geese are raised. A goose that has free range and always has fresh water and good feed is larger and therefore has larger down.

The Eider duck

Eiderdown is a true luxury product. Eider ducks are mostly found in Iceland and Greenland. Eider ducks are a protected species that cannot be domesticated and live exclusively in the wild. Only already shed down can be collected, so only a few tons are available per year. Eiderdown is eight times more expensive than good goose down. Down is the oldest and most popular form of bedding filling. It is particularly suitable for anyone who gets cold quickly. This is because the small hairs on the down feathers trap air very well, which can retain and insulate heat. Another property of down comforters: they absorb moisture from below, that is, the sweat you release while sleeping. This moisture is then directed upwards through the comforter. So with a down comforter, you won't wake up sweating. The comforter is so clever that your body can breathe relaxed underneath it. In summer, a down comforter might still be a bit warm.

Four-season microfiber duvets

Here there are the greatest quality and price differences: The term microfiber is not protected and can mean anything. Microfiber is an artificially produced fiber. It consists of polyester and silk-like polyamide, as well as nylon and acrylic. Microfibers are three times finer than cotton and twice as fine as silk, which is considered the thinnest natural fiber. A hair is a hundred times thicker than a microfiber. Microfiber has five times the absorbency of cotton, and the fabric also has high breathability. The term microfiber describes the collection of very thin and particularly fine fibers. In comparison to microfibers, silk fibers are for example twice as strong, cotton fibers three to four times as strong, and human hair about a hundred times as strong. Microfiber is usually made from polyester, polyacrylic, or polyamide. Hence the term "chemical fibers". The microfiber four-season duvet is characterized by many positive properties.

Einfache Pflege der Bettdecke

Due to the fact that this is a synthetic fiber, the microfiber four-season duvet is very dirt-resistant. If the duvet does get dirty or has stains, it is very easy to wash. The microfiber four-season duvet dries within a few hours after washing, so it can be quickly used again. A positive aspect of this duvet regarding care and wash resistance is that the microfiber proves to be very shape-retaining. Even after many washes, the duvet remains perfectly in shape and does not distort, as can be expected from other blankets. In contrast to the fleece blanket, for example, the microfiber duvet has another advantage, as it does not tend to pill on the surface, which fleece unfortunately often shows after several washes or intensive use. Both in use and in care, the microfiber cuddle blanket is very pleasant, being shape-retaining and dirt-repellent. Even difficult stains like wine are not a problem for the microfiber.

Properties and advantages of a four-season duvet made of microfiber

In terms of skin feel, the microfiber is pleasant, as it is extremely soft. The reason for this lies in the fiber structure of the microfiber. The microfiber or its individual threads have only half the thickness of silk, making this synthetic material significantly softer than silk. It is precisely these fine threads that are also the reason why microfiber hardly tends to form lint. It creates such a smooth surface that these unpleasant fabric knots are generally absent. Microfiber is available in so many colors and color combinations that it fits effortlessly into all homes. In terms of popularity, the cuddly blanket is just as highly regarded as bed linen and other home textiles made from this equally easy-care and pleasant material.

Microfiber is not the same as microfiber

Even though the individual manufacturers have their own product names for microfiber, all microfiber products share the same very good and pleasant properties. Plastic bottles are made from the plastic polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The raw material polyester is derived from oil, a resource that is becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. Therefore, clothing/bed linen is also made from plastic bottles that can no longer be refilled. The bottles are washed, sorted, and processed into so-called PET flakes – a form that is cheaper for transport. The resulting secondary raw material is ground and heated. Then, the melted plastic is drawn into threads using the injection nozzle method, which are then woven into fibers. The obtained material is processed, for example, into synthetic fur, better known by the English name "fleece," in German: Flausch. However, other textiles can also be made from the plastic flakes that have a high polyamide and low cotton content. Polyester fibers are particularly suitable for sportswear because they can transport moisture away from the body well. The synthetic fabric polyester is also obtained from PET bottles, among other things. It is mostly used as an insulating surface material or as a component in blended fabrics. Polyester is extremely tear-resistant and water-repellent. However, polyester itself does not provide warmth at all, at most in combination with other fabrics.

Four Seasons Cotton Duvet

The advantage of cotton is that it is very absorbent compared to synthetic fibers. It does not scratch, and is durable and stretchy. Cotton is long-lasting and easy to care for. Fineness and feel: Cotton belongs to the fine fibers. The longer a fiber is, the finer it generally is. The finer the fiber, the softer its feel. Thermal insulation: Cotton has relatively poor thermal insulation due to its smooth surface. However, by raising the fibers, it is possible to produce warm-holding textiles. Moisture absorption: Cotton can absorb a lot of moisture and therefore dries very slowly. Skin-friendliness: Due to its fineness and softness, cotton is very skin-friendly. Strength: The abrasion and durability of cotton is very good. Elasticity (wrinkle tendency): The elasticity of cotton is very low, and therefore it wrinkles easily.

Four Seasons Duvet Sheep Wool

The merino sheep wool is a pure natural product. It allows for a natural temperature balance and an excellent moisture exchange. This promotes a dry and healthy sleeping climate. Merino wool offers excellent insulation protection against cold and heat, as its crimped fibers can contain up to 85 percent air relative to their total volume. It thus functions like a low-energy house based on the insulation principle and creates a healthy and even warmth. Most people are unaware of this, as wool is generally associated only with warmth. The nomadic tribes have shown us for centuries that wearing wool clothing is particularly pleasant in great heat, as demonstrated by their burnous. Like the burnous, the merino garment should be worn loosely. Since the wool fibers are hygroscopic (moisture-absorbing), moisture is directed away from the body and absorbed by the wool, where it is stored. This creates the desired evaporative cooling, as the warm ambient air ensures quick drying of the wool.

Wool is insulating

Since wool also has its insulating properties here, this benefits us additionally. Due to its unique fiber structure, merino wool has self-cleaning properties. Since it does not attract dirt particles, frequent washing is unnecessary. In principle, however, our Kaipara merino clothing can be easily washed in the machine at 40° Celsius. At low temperature settings, it is also suitable for the dryer. However, since merino wool is a fast-drying fiber, we recommend air drying. This way, you protect the environment and your Four Seasons duvet.

Four Seasons quilt duvet

Actually, any duvet can serve as a Four Seasons duvet. Duvets can be filled with different materials. Usually, two duvets are connected with a snap button. Both duvets then have a different amount of filling. A duvet is called a duvet because it has a quilting that is meant to prevent the filling from shifting. The cassette quilting is also known, which can vary in size. The larger the individual cassettes are, the more filling fits inside.

Four Seasons duvet sizes

The four-season blanket is most commonly purchased in the size 135 x 200. However, the four-season duvet is also available in all other sizes:

  • Four Seasons duvet 135 x 200 cm standard size
  • Four Seasons duvet 155 x 200 cm comfort size

Four Seasons duvet oversized

The sizes of the Four Seasons duvet:

  • Four Seasons duvet 135 x 220 cm
  • Four Seasons duvet 155 x 220 cm

For couples who like to sleep under one blanket, there are extra sizes:

  • Four Seasons duvet 200x200 cm smaller than 180 cm
  • Four Seasons duvet 200x220 cm larger than 180
  • Four Seasons duvet 240x220 cm Comfort size
  • Four Seasons duvet 260x220 cm King Size

With the Four Seasons duvet, a distinction is made between standard size and oversized. Oversized is referred to when the Four Seasons duvet is longer than 200 cm. Generally, you should calculate your height + 20 cm, which applies to Four Seasons duvets and beds alike. In width, the duvet should be 50 cm wider than your mattress. At night, a person changes their body position 40 to 60 times. To avoid hypothermia and to ensure that all body parts are covered in every body position, a sufficiently large duvet must be purchased.
